Brother James

Growing up with the Messiah

When your parents know, but you don’t....
James is growing up in the first century AD, although he didn't know it. The brutal Romans occupy the Promised Land, the Pharisees think just about everything is a sin, and the bandits are trying to start a rebellion. And everyone thinks the Saviour will show up any time now to overthrow the Romans. There's something else James didn't know - his very own brother is growing up to be the Promised Messiah.

Q. What is the inspiration for the story?
A. The Bible tells us Jesus's siblings didn't believe he was the Messiah at first. Well, why would they? They were a poor family in a nondescript town. I wondered what it was like for James. He led the church in Jerusalem after the resurrection, so he must have figured it out.
Q. Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
A. Things aren't always as we expect. The people of Israel were expecting the Saviour to be a political or military leader who would rise up against the Romans. And here's Jesus talking about repentance, love, everlasting life. Of course it makes sense in hindsight.
Q. This book is part of a series, tell us about your series.
A. This book covers the period before Jesus started his ministry. There are hints that Jesus is the Messiah but James doesn't notice. The second book will cover the time of Jesus's ministry, and the third will cover after the resurrection, when James led the church in Jerusalem.

About me Chris Lambert is a formerly-lapsed Christian who, by the grace of God, escaped a cubicle job surrounded by the dementors from Harry Potter. She currently lives in an old cabin in the woods on a lake in cottage country, north of Toronto, Canada. Besides writing, she is an artist. She enjoys swimming, kayaking, scuba diving, hiking and renovating old cabins, although she's pretty sure that last one is just a phase.
